OUR HISTORY
EXPERTISE, CONTACTS + A SPRINKLING OF MAGIC
The first non-religious agency opened its doors in London in 1825. Since then, technology has spawned a proliferation of apps - yet the traditional, face-to-face approach still has its place amongst the discerning, high-profile or privacy-conscious.
The Founders of Club 1942 are Mary-Ann & EJ Henningham, a dynamic mother/daughter duo who have been happily working together since 1998.
Our remarkable success is due to a special alchemy of skill, intuition, hard work and an ever-expanding network of friends, professional contacts and Associate Scouts.
FOUNDER
Our top banana!
My beloved grandmother was my inspiration and reason I became a Matchmaker. She was a woman of substance, and one of the kindest people you could ever hope to meet.
Though she never turned professional, she used her seating arrangements and gentle influence to great effect; the results of which were often firm friendships and long, happy marriages.
I believe i've inherited her ability to truly listen, put clients at ease, and trust my intuition - especially as i’m also dyslexic. Feelings of inadequacy in the classroom fuelled a lifelong determination to be the best in whatever I put my mind to.
I’m proud to have become a sought-after matchmaker and look forward to meeting you soon!

FOUNDER
Though I studied Auctioneering & Valuation, worked in Sotheby’s Fine Art department and was a Founding Director of a boutique financial services company, matchmaking is in my DNA.
As a second generation professional Matchmaker, I have an innate ability to evaluate and read people - ideal for when i’m headhunting potential matches.
Not only do I love what I do, but I also have the privilege of working with my Mama (and Millie, her eccentric mini dachshund). Our strong bond is built on trust and mutual respect - something which is reflected in our partnerships with clients.
I look forward to working with you; and cheering from the sidelines as you begin an exciting, new adventure!

THE STORY BEHIND OUR NAME
WHY CLUB 1942?
We are a quintessentially Anglo-Australian brand, but our name was inspired by one of the most beloved American movies of all time, Casablanca
The classic love story starring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman had its world premier in New York City on November 26, 1942
Rick + Ilsa may have sacrificed their love for the greater good, but it was profoundly heroic.
(And we'll forever imagine that post war, they found Paris once again).
